Dunster Wood Fair
Dunster Castle
Saturday 30 September 2006
Well what a great day Dunster turned out to be with nearly 1500 people coming along to the old castle grounds!
We’ve had some really encouraging comments from many of you who were there exhibiting as well as visitors. Everyone agreed the site was stunning which certainly helps but exhibitors also reported a really good day with many admitting it had exceeded their expectations. Quite a few made flattering comparisons with the Festival of the Tree and one exhibitor announced he’d made more money at Dunster! It was especially good to hear such positive comments, not least, because we were aware that Dunster is a tricky place to get to for many people and petrol ain’t cheap.
Lots of you have asked if it’s going to be annual event. As a first attempt it appears to have been surprisingly (and reassuringly) successful and I think it would be a shame if we weren’t able to build on this in the future. Obviously there are lessons to be learnt and improvements to be made but it’s an encouraging place from which to start. Please do let us know any suggestions or criticisms you might have so that we can work on making the next Woodfair South West events better for everyone. For the record next time I’d like to see the lovely West Country Waites entertaining us all from the middle of the site and I think we need to be mindful about those occupying pitches at the “far-end” and ensure we do our utmost to channel visitors in their direction.
