Building with Wood 2007
The role of timber in improving the sustainability of the built environment
Tuesday 18 September 2007 • Exeter University’s Peter Chalk Centre
A major one-day conference, combining presentations and a series of seminars themed around inspirational design, affordable housing, sustainable development, practical issues for architects, zero carbon buildings, wood energy and timber industry research, with corresponding trade stands and an exhibition of the twelve most inspirational timber buildings in Europe.
The presentations and seminars brought together both new and established practitioners from the UK and Europe, including designer Wayne Hemingway, John Romer from Edward Cullinan Architects, Alex de Rijke of dRMM Architects, Beat Mathys of Smarch Architects and Pekka Heikkinen from the Wood Studio at Helsinki University of Technology.
Organisations contributing included BRE, TRADA, RIBA and Exeter University.
The event was organised jointly by Woodfair South West and the Centre for Contemporary Art and the Natural World (CCANW).
