About Woodfair South West
Ringing the changes: the new Woodfair South West partnership
What began as a one-day show taking place once a year at Roadford has now evolved into a series of events taking place across the region. In December 2005 the SW Woodland Renaissance Partnership approved a three-year scheme allowing funding from the South West of England Regional Development Agency to support the Woodfair South West initiative to go on the road.
The new partnership between South West Forest, the Forestry Commission, the National Parks and the Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty has been set up to enable more woodland-related industries to benefit from the initiative throughout the year.
The annual summer event has now grown to two days and will alternate between Roadford and Taunton to ‘balance things up geographically’. There is also a series of smaller events being arranged to take place throughout the year and across the region to provide more opportunities for woodfolk to show off and sell their work and to network and build supportive relationships.
It’s hoped that the growth of Woodfair South West will help to raise awareness of the concept as a ‘brand’ and through this encourage greater awareness of what it is trying to achieve, namely, the success and sustainability of the South West’s wood-related industries.
